Hudson Institute hosted U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming for a one-on-one discussion with Hudson Distinguished Fellow Walter Russell Mead on U.S. national security. Mead explored Congresswoman Cheney’s perspective on Iran and the future of the Middle East; counterterrorism; Russia and transatlantic relations; the growing strategic challenge of China; defense modernization and readiness; and other concerns facing American policymakers.

A highly regarded voice on national security and international affairs, the congresswoman serves on the House Committee on Armed Services and the subcommittees for Military Personnel and Strategic Forces. She is the chair of the House Republican Conference. Prior to her 2016 election to the House, Cheney served as a deputy assistant secretary of state and principal deputy assistant secretary of state for the Middle East.

Dialogues on American Foreign Policy and World Affairs is a Hudson discussion series moderated by Walter Russell Mead, one of America’s leading analysts of international affairs and the “Global View” columnist for The Wall Street Journal. The series features influential policymakers and opinion leaders in candid conversation on timely questions of international affairs and national security.
