Blueprint for Action: A Future Worth Creating

May 4, 2006, 3:00 - 5:00 PM - Hudson Institute, Washington, D.C. Headquarters

Featured Speaker:

Thomas P.M. Barnett
Thursday, May 4, 2006

3:00-5:00 p.m.

Thomas P.M. Barnett, an adviser for the Office of the Secretary of Defense, will present his new book Blueprint for Action. His previous work, The Pentagon's New Map, analyzed security, economic, political, and cultural factors to provide a fundamental reexamination of war and peace in the post-9/11 world. In Blueprint for Action, Dr. Barnett explains how we could achieve a better future by exploring both long- and short-term pathways for governments, institutions, and individuals. Paying particular attention to crucial world regions, Dr. Barnett outlines the strategies we should pursue, the entities we can create, and the pitfalls we must overcome.

Dr. Barnett earned his Ph.D. in Political Science from Harvard University. He regularly advises the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) and senior members of the Military Services, the Intelligence Community, and Congress. Dr. Barnett is also Managing Director of Enterra Solutions, which provides advanced information integration, security, and compliance solutions to clients in the private and federal sectors. He formerly served as Senior Strategic Researcher at the Naval War College and as Assistant for Strategic Futures in OSD’s Office of Force Transformation. While at the Naval War College, he helped direct a series of senior-level wargames on long-term scenarios for globalization.
