Location, Location, Location: Do Female Entrepreneurs Lose Out?

Thursday, March 29, 2007, 11:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Betsy and Walter Stern Conference Center
Hudson Institute
1015 15th Street, N.W., 6th Floor, Washington, D.C. 20005

Entrepreneurs tend to locate in cities and industry clusters because networking often contributes to business success. But this is less true of women entrepreneurs: many locate closer to home. These patterns are important as they suggest that women-owned businesses do not enjoy the same benefits from networking that male-owned businesses do, and so suffer a comparative disadvantage in business development. In a new paper, using data from Dun and Bradstreet's Marketplace file, Professor Stuart Rosenthal of Syracuse University explains why.

The Honorable Katherine Baicker, Member, Council of Economic Advisers, will deliver a keynote address on solving health insurance problems for entrepreneurs. Lunch will be served.
