On behalf of the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) and the Hudson Institute’s Center for Latin American Studies, we are honored to invite you to attend a special joint forum featuring United States Senator Mel Martinez of Florida who will provide remarks on “U.S – Latin American Relations: Challenges and Opportunities for the 110th Congress.” This event will take place on Thursday, March 29th from 8:30 am to 10:00 am in Dirksen Senate Office Building Room SD-G11 (basement level) in Washington, D.C.

In 2005, Senator Mel Martinez was sworn in as the thirty-third senator of Florida and became the first Cuban-American to serve in the U.S. Senate. He is a strong advocate of democratic reforms across the Western Hemisphere and is recognized by the U.S. Hispanic community as a role-model both at home and abroad. The recent trip to Latin America by President George W. Bush provides a perfect background on the challenges and opportunities which must be addressed in the 110th Congress to further strengthen the historic political, economic, cultural and national security ties with our hemispheric neighbors.

The Center for Latin American Studies provides analysis of key economic, social, strategic, and cultural developments in Latin America to decision makers in business and government and provides a forum in Washington, D.C., for new Latin American voices in academia, politics, public policy, and the media. Please visit www.hudson.org.

Established in 2003, CHLI works to promote new and alternative approaches to challenges faced by the 44 million Hispanic and Portuguese Americans living in the United States today. Through educational partnerships, leadership programs, academic seminars and other events, CHLI provides opportunities for discussion and exploration of strategic solutions which benefit both the U.S. Hispanic community and the nation as a whole. Please visit www.chli.org.

To confirm your attendance, please RSVP at rsvp@chli.org or by calling (202) 429-2033. Please note all attendees must present proper identification before entering U.S. Senate buildings. We encourage you to arrive at 8:30 A.M.

Sincerely,

Octavio A. Hinojosa Mier
