The Role of the Corporation in America: How Are the Rules of Corporate Governance and Antitrust Law Evolving?

May 21, 2007, 12:00 - 2:00 PM - Hudson Institute, Washington, D.C. Headquarters

The Hudson Institute Center for Economic Policy Studies cordially invites you to a panel discussion on Irwin Stelzer’s new monograph on

The Role of the Corporation in America

Listen to this event below

May 21, 2007
12:00-2:00 PM

Antitrust authorities and a special commission established by Congress are in the process of examining the antitrust laws in order to determine whether any changes in these statutes – and in their application – are needed. At the same time, the rules of corporate governance are once again being discussed in Congress and in the investment community, with Sarbanes-Oxley, executive compensation, the relation of shareholders to directors and managers, and a host of related issues among those being considered.

Irwin Stelzer, Director of Hudson’s Center for Economic Policy Studies, is presenting his new monograph, Coping with Market Power in the Modern Era, a discussion of the role of the corporation in America and the relationship of our antitrust laws to our attitudes towards the corporation. Judge Robert Bork, Distinguished Fellow, Hudson Institute, Heidi Mandanis Schooner, Professor of Law, Catholic University, and John H. Shenefield, Partner, Morgan Lewis, will offer what we anticipate will be critical views of that paper, which can be downloaded by clicking here.

Irwin Stelzer is a senior fellow and director of Hudson Institute’s Center for Economic Policy Studies. Prior to joining Hudson Institute in 1998, Stelzer was resident scholar and director of regulatory policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute. He also is the U.S. economic and political columnist for The Sunday Times (London) and The Courier Mail (Australia), a contributing editor of The Weekly Standard, a member of the Publication Committee of The Public Interest, and a member of the board of the Regulatory Policy Institute (Oxford).

The seminar is sponsored by Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.

Lunch will be served.
