The Future Politics of Immigration

Despite two successive defeats of comprehensive immigration reform, immigration remains one of the most important issues in American politics. Immigration, both legal and illegal, contributes more than a million new people to the American population every year. It has an impact on the U.S economy, social services, the budget, and even the self-characterization of the American nation. It is an issue that divides both parties internally, and mobilizes support from business, labor, religious, and civic interests.

At the same time, immigration is also helping to reshape American politics as it changes the demographic, ethnic, religious and occupational structure of the country. Bringing together a group of esteemed experts on the various facets of immigration, this conference focused on the future politics of immigration. Experts included Robert Rector, Mickey Kaus, Mark Krikorian, Kate O’Beirne, David Coleman, Nick Eberstadt, Steve Sailer, Peter Skerry, and Peter Brimelow.
