With Canadian parliamentary elections scheduled for October 14th, Hudson Institute was pleased to hold a panel discussion with Canadian Senator Hugh D. Segal (Conservative, Kingston-Frontenac-Leeds, Ontario) and Hudson Institute Senior Fellow Christopher Sands. The panel considered whether the campaign north of the border offers any lessons on how voters may react to similar issues in the U.S. elections three weeks later and the prospects for U.S.-Canada relations afterwards. Kenneth Weinstein, CEO of Hudson Institute, moderated the discussion.

Segal, a noted observer of Canadian politics, served as Chief of Staff to former Progressive Conservative Prime Minister Brian Mulroney as well as President of the Institute for Research on Public Policy of Canada (Montreal). Senator Segal has taught at Queen's University Schools of Policy Studies and Business since 1993. A prolific author, his most recent book is The Long Road Back: The Conservative Journey, 1993-2006 (HarperCollins, 2006). Christopher Sands is Hudson Institute's resident specialist on Canadian politics and U.S.-Canada relations.
