Ed Husain is co-director and co-founder of Quilliam, the London-based counter-extremism think tank, and the author of the acclaimed book The Islamist. Formerly an activist of Hizb ut-Tahrir and Jamat-e-Islam front organizations in the U.K., he has now become a strong critic of extremism and Islamism. Mr. Husain holds an M.A. in Middle East studies from SOAS and is currently completing his Ph.D. on Arab experiences of post-colonial secularism.

 

Nina Shea, Director of Hudson's Center for Religious Freedom, moderated the discussion.
