Weitz, Pifer, Brooks, and Rojansky The seventeen year old Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) will expire on December 5 and it is unclear whether a new START treaty will be signed by then. Prospects for ratification of a new treaty by the U.S. Senate remain unknown. While presidents Obama and Medvedev have met face-to-face four times and created a high level bilateral working group to discuss nuclear arms control, little is known about both sides' goals beyond replacing START. This panel discussion assessed the road to a START replacement and what comes next for the U.S. and Russia. The discussion was co-chaired by Richard Weitz, Senior Fellow and Director of Hudson's Center for Political-Military Analysis, and Matthew Rojansky, Executive Director of the Parternship for a Secure America.
