The landscape of foreign assistance has drastically changed. Private financial flows such as philanthropy, remittances, and capital investment have far outpaced official development assistance. The rising role of the private sector in international development has resulted in expanding public-private partnerships, involvement of local actors, demand-driven projects, and new technology delivering aid faster and more efficiently.

The 2012 Index of Global Philanthropy and Remittances was released at this event, which showcased new statistics on private giving to the developing world for the year 2010.

The distinguished panel discussed the changing architecture of foreign assistance and its implications for international development.
