An implosion of Pakistan, with its 170 million inhabitants

and nuclear-tipped ballistic missiles, is a

real possibility that would have dire consequences not

only for Pakistan, but for Afghanistan as well. The

United States must chart different possible outcomes

emerging from this scenario, including contingency

planning and several policy options.
