New Massacre of Copts

NRO Corner Blog

February 2, 2011
by Nina Shea

The Australian Coptic Movement of Syndey, Australia, has posted a report of a massacre of Coptic Christians last Sunday, January 30, at 3 P.M., in the village of Sharona, province of Al Minya. It reports that eleven Copts, including a three-year-old, were murdered inside their homes. According to the local Coptic Bishop His Grace Aghathon, the attackers were known to the victims and to all in the area. This information has also been confirmed by Australians who have families in Al Minya province. The Australian Coptic Movement states that witnesses have the names of the murderers who were known to the victims and appeals to the Egyptian Army to apprehend them immediately and provide protection. For further information, contact the Australian Coptic Movement,Sydney, Australia., Without militias of their own and a police force that has often been unwilling to protect them, the Copts are especially vulnerable to any religiously motivated violence.
