"Brexit" Vote a Turning Point for Britain and European Union

British voters will go to the polls next week to decide whether their country should remain in the European Union. The vote has come to be known as “Brexit” — shorthand for Britain’s possible exit from the EU — and will be a crucial turning point in Britain’s future and that of the already troubled European Union. Supporters of Brexit argue that the country is weighed down by the EU’s bloated bureaucracy, while opponents of the move say that leaving the EU will come at a heavy economic and political cost to Britain. We take up the debate.
