Biography

Emmanuel A. Kampouris is the former chairman and chief executive officer of American Standard Companies, Inc. He joined the company's Plumbing Products Greek subsidiary in Europe as General Manager - Manufacturing in 1966. In 1979, he became vice president and group executive of its International Division. Kampouris was named senior vice president of the Building Products sector in 1984. In 1989, he was elected president and chief executive officer of American Standard, Inc. He became chairman of the company's Board of Directors in 1993, a position he held until he retired at the end of 1999. In 1995, he returned the company to the public domain (ASD) following a successful limited buy out in 1988, an action taken to repel a hostile bid by Black and Decker.

Kampouris serves on the Board of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and is a member of its Executive Committee. He also serves on the Boards of Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and the National Endowment for Democracy. He is an overseer of the Executive Council on Diplomacy, and a member of Oxford University's Council for the School of Management Studies.

Kampouris holds a master's degree in law from the University of Oxford and received a degree in Ceramic Technology from North Staffordshire College of Technology in England.
