WASHINGTON, D.C. — Hudson Institute mourns the loss of former Vice President Dick Cheney, who passed away at 84. Hudson President and CEO John P. Walters offered the following statement:
“We are deeply saddened by the former vice president’s passing. Dick Cheney was a patriot, a statesman, and a devoted father. He was a champion for American leadership in the world and devoted his career to the defense of our great country.
“Dick was also a longtime friend of Hudson and a steadfast ally in our mission to preserve American security, freedom, and prosperity.”
Cheney was honored twice by Hudson Institute—receiving the James H. Doolittle Award in 1998 and Herman Kahn Award in 2012—for his distinguished service to the United States and his commitment to national security, free markets, and individual liberty.
Before becoming vice president, Cheney served as White House chief of staff under President Gerald Ford, as a six-term congressman from Wyoming, and as secretary of defense during the administration of George H.W. Bush. He is survived by his wife Lynne V. Cheney, their two daughters, and seven grandchildren.
