Nick Snyder

Nick Snyder is a nonresident senior fellow at Hudson Institute, where he focuses on the Indo-Pacific. He also serves as senior vice president at American Global Strategies.

Snyder is a former distinguished member of the US Senior Foreign Service, where over a 23-year career he covered key relationships and advanced the policy objectives of multiple administrations. Most recently, he was chief of staff to Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau. He also served as Vice President Mike Pence's special advisor for Asia and the Pacific. Snyder has held numerous senior roles at the State Department, including director of the Office of Japanese Affairs, deputy coordinator of the Office of China Coordination, and acting principal deputy assistant secretary for the Bureau of Cyberspace and Digital Policy. He was also detailed as senior advisor to the assistant secretary of defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs. His overseas postings included China, Singapore, Vietnam, Morocco, and New Zealand, where he was often acting ambassador and served as deputy chief of mission.

Before joining the US government, Snyder worked as an M&A analyst at Dillon, Read & Co. Inc. and as a journalist. He speaks French and functional Mandarin. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a founding member of the Meridian International Center's Rising Leaders Council, and a BMW Foundation Young Leader. He is also a recipient of multiple State Department Superior and Meritorious Honor awards.

Snyder received his BA magna cum laude in English and American literature from Harvard University.
