Biography

Joel Frushone is director of external affairs at Hudson Institute.

From 2017 to 2021, Mr. Frushone served in several senior leadership positions in the Trump administration, including external affairs roles at the US Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration, where he directed communications supporting the deployment of $1.5 billion in CARES Act Recovery Assistance and spearheaded Opportunity Zone reforms and engagement with the White House, HUD, and the US Congress, and at the Peace Corps, where he led communications and stakeholder engagement across the United States and more than 60 countries.

From 2021 to 2022, Mr. Frushone served as director of external affairs at the Maryland Department of Health, leading statewide communications during the Covid-19 vaccine rollout.

From 2007 to 2016, Mr. Frushone established and led a consulting firm specializing in communication strategies, policy, and government relations in Africa.

Immediately before joining Hudson, Mr. Frushone was a senior manager at Ernst & Young, advising public-sector leaders on strategic communications and change management.

He received his BS in political science from Duquesne University.
