Hudson Institute to Sponsor Andrew W. Marshall Scholar for Study on National Security

Hudson Institute

WASHINGTON—With support from the Andrew W. Marshall Foundation, Hudson Institute is pleased to announce the second year of its Andrew W. Marshall Scholar program, dedicated to promoting innovative thinkers in the field of national security. The Marshall Scholar will be hosted by Hudson’s Center for Defense Concepts and Technology.

Hudson Institute will award a $20,000 grant to an analyst currently working in U.S. national security to author a research paper that challenges the conventional wisdom on their proposed area of study. Beginning in April 2022, the Marshall Scholar will be asked to complete a research paper of no more than 5,000 words by April 2023. Contractors, non-profit researchers, and government employees are eligible. Although open to all eligible applicants, mid-level researchers (e.g., GS-13 to 15 or equivalent) will be given priority.

Hudson Institute and the Andrew W. Marshall Foundation will provide the Marshall Scholar with the resources to review and refine their work, including but not limited to: outline and draft review; mentorship; feedback sessions with advisors; coordination with subject matter experts; and limited travel funds for research.

Applicants must submit an abstract of 300 words or less, along with their CV or résumé, to Hudson Institute by February 25, 2022. The abstract should describe the proposed research area to be developed during the Marshall Scholar’s term. Proposals that emphasize reliance on fundamental trends and explore revisions of the basic metrics and incentives for national security operations and capability development will be given priority.
