Biography

George Scutaru is a founder and the chief executive officer of the New Strategy Center. He started his professional career in journalism, first as an editor of a press agency, then as a press correspondent to Moscow, and finally as director general of a consultancy agency. Between 2004 and 2014, Mr. Scutaru was a member of the Romanian Parliament, in the Chamber of Deputies. In that period, he held the positions of secretary (2004–08) and vice chairman (2008–14) of the Committee on Defense and National Security. Between 2014 and 2015, he was national security advisor to the Romanian president. His area of expertise is the post-Soviet space and specifically the extended Black Sea region.
