Biography

Jung Yeop Woo is a nonresident senior fellow at Hudson Institute.

Dr. Woo most recently served as senior vice president of Hyundai Motor Group. At Hyundai, he was chief coordinating officer of the Washington Office within the company’s Global Policy Office (GPO), where he oversaw US government relations and policy strategy. He joined Hyundai Motor Group as head of policy strategy at GPO.

Prior to entering the private sector, Dr. Woo served as director general for strategy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea. In this role, he led the development of the implementation plan for Korea’s Indo-Pacific strategy and headed the ministry’s diplomatic intelligence task force supporting the Office of the President.

Earlier in his career, Dr. Woo was a senior fellow at the Sejong Institute and the Asan Institute for Policy Studies. His research focused on Korean Peninsula security, economic security and supply chain resilience, and ROK–US relations.

Dr. Woo received his PhD in political science from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. He holds a BA from Seoul National University and an MPP from Georgetown University, and he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Korean Studies Institute at the University of Southern California.
