Hudson President and CEO John P. Walters offered the following statement on the results of the Taiwanese presidential elections:

“On behalf of Hudson Institute, I want to congratulate President-elect Lai Ching-te and Vice President–elect Bi-Khim Hsiao on their historic victory. This victory is a celebration of democracy and the courage and determination of the Taiwanese people. Taiwan boldly exemplifies democratic governance in the face of a dangerous tyranny.

“America and Hudson Institute have a longstanding and close relationship with Taiwan, and Hudson was privileged to honor President Tsai and Taiwan’s shining example of freedom and democracy last March. In response, the Chinese Communist Party sanctioned the institute. We wear this as a badge of honor. Promoting democracy and freedom in the Indo-Pacific is paramount for Hudson, and we know we must not bow to tyrants. I look forward to continuing our work for a free and open Indo-Pacific with the people of Taiwan and their new democratically elected leaders.”
