In Peace Through Strength: How Reagan's Military Buildup Won the Cold War, available November 17, Roger Zakheim examines the largest peacetime military buildup in American history and how it helped defeat the Soviet Union. Drawing from President Ronald Reagan’s words, firsthand accounts from Washington insiders, and archival research, the book explores how sustained military investment and strategic clarity altered Soviet behavior and restored the United States’ credibility on the world stage. In today’s era of renewed great power competition, Peace Through Strength offers important lessons for restoring deterrence.

Join Hudson Institute for a conversation with Senior Fellow Nadia Schadlow and Roger Zakheim, director of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute, to discuss Peace Through Strength and what President Reagan’s buildup can teach US policymakers today.

The conversation will be followed by a book signing.
