On September 16, a 22-year-old Iranian woman named Mahsa Amini died in detention after Iran’s morality police held her for wearing an unsuitable hijab, sparking protests across the country. Initial demonstrations against the hijab restrictions evolved into the worst period of domestic unrest in the history of the Islamic Republic. Senior Biden administration officials issued statements of solidarity with the Iranian people. But the White House also signaled its willingness to move ahead with the nuclear deal, which would lift sanctions and channel hundreds of billions of dollars into the coffers of the regime. Is this the beginning of a revolution in Iran, or just another storm of unrest that the regime will weather? How should the United States respond? Is it time to abandon the nuclear deal? Please join us for a panel discussion on these issues.
