Joe Lieberman, Hudson’s 2011 annual award honoree, was an extraordinary public servant who placed dedication to country above personal and partisan interest.

In the aftermath of the painfully close 2000 presidential campaign, rather than succumbing to rancor, Senator Lieberman crossed party lines to work closely with President George W. Bush and Senator John McCain on fighting Islamic radicalism. His stance cost him the Democratic Party nomination for the Senate in Connecticut in 2006.

Senator Lieberman was a longtime friend of Hudson Institute. He also cochaired the Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense following his retirement from the Senate in 2012.

We will all miss his insight, his wit, and his dedication to public service. We offer our heartfelt condolences to his widow, Hadassah, and his extended family.
